General Information

Overview:

     This course offers professional barefoot trimmers and farriers the opportunity to take several of the Certification Exams offered by the Equine Lameness Prevention Organization.  This class is not designed as an educational course or as a certification preparatory course.  Although there is some opportunity over the first few days to practice or become acclimated to the type of feet you will work on during your exam, you should not expect these opportunities to prepare you for the practical or written examinations.  This is a CERTIFICATION course and you should attend with the idea that you are PREPARED for the exams.

     There are three exams that will be administered during the course.  The Category 1 exam will be for the Live Sole – Hoof Mapping Certification, which will need to be passed before you can move on to the other categories.  The Category 2 exam is for the E.L.P.O. Barefoot Trimming Certification.  For professional trimmers, this will be the final exam they will take during this course.  They will be finished with the course on Friday evening.  The professional farriers that are taking the course must successfully complete the barefoot exam before attempting the shoeing exam.  On Saturday, the professional farriers can take the Category 3 exam which is for the E.L.P.O. Farrier Certification.  The exam in each category must be successfully completed before moving to the next certification opportunity.  No previous education course completion is required to attempt the E.L.P.O. certifications, however extensive practice and hands-on training at a pre-certification type workshop is highly recommended.    

Who Should Attend?:

“Professional” barefoot trimmers and farriers who are prepared for the certification exams.

Course Length:

The class lasts 2.5 Days for barefoot trimmers (Wednesday Evening, Thursday & Friday)

The class lasts 3.5 Days for farriers (Wednesday Evening, Thursday, Friday & Saturday)

Course Fees:

Barefoot Trimmers taking the LSHM & Barefoot certifications = $325

Barefoot Trimmers taking LSHM and/or Barefoot certifications (2^nd attempt or Re-Certification) = $250

Farriers taking the LSHM, Barefoot & Farrier certifications = $425 

Farriers taking the Farrier certification only (2^nd attempt or Re-Certification) = $325
