Course Structure & Requirement
Level 1 Courses

1 - 5 Day Course Options Available with Lectures, Demonstrations & Basic Hands-On work
-
Starting point for everyone wishing to learn about ELPO Hoof Care Principles. This course is offered to professionals & non-professionals that are only interested in learning how to recognize hoof distortion and do basic hoof care maintenance.

There is NO previous experience or requirements necessary to attend this course level.

There are no certification opportunities available at this course level.
Level 2 - Advanced Barefoot Trimming Certification Course

2.5 Day Course with Lectures, Demonstrations & Hands-On work

This course is intended for professional barefoot trimmers and farrier that have some ELPO Hoof Care experience & are ready to take the CBT Certification Exam.

This course is open to part-time or full-time barefoot trimmers and farriers. No prior ELPO course or clinic experience is required, but it is VERY helpful.

The “Certified Barefoot Trimmer” Exam is administered at this course.
Level 3 - Advanced Farrier Certification Course

3.5 Day Course with LecturNBBT & CNBF Certification Exam.

This course is intended for professional farriers that have adequate experience with the accepted ELPO Hoof Care Protocols & are PREPARED to take the Barefoot & Farrier Certification Exam.

This course is open to professional farriers with a minimum of 1 year of full time farriery experience. Prior ELPO course or clinic experience is REQUIRED.

The Barefoot Trimmer & the Professional Farrier Exams are administered at this course.
Level 4 - Advanced Lameness Certification Course

4.5 Day Course with Lectures, Demonstrations, Dissections & Hands-On Work

Must have achieved the professional farrier certification level of recognition before attempting the CLS exam. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a full time professional farrier is required.

The “Certified Lameness Specialist” Exam is administered at this course.Although this level of certification is typically reserved for those farriers that do treat or are interested in treating many lame horses, it is still an education opportunity for many certified professional farriers that will challenge their skills. This is a good option for meeting the certification upgrade or continuing education credits necessary to meet ELPO requirements.

This course is primarily intended for beginning or do-it-yourself part-time barefoot trimmers. However, professional barefoot trimmers and farrier are welcome to attend if you have no prior ELPO Hoof Care experience.
